Show me one bill that proposes taking guns from all citizens by force? If it involves a voluntary relinquishing of these weapons, that's not even close to "taking your guns"! And Red Flag laws are not "confiscation", because those are targeted at individuals that have proven they are not capable of handling the reasonability of owning a weapon. But of course, you'll disagree, and then whine that nothing is being done about mental health and gun ownership.

      Moving goal posts is prohibited.
No red flag laws require "proving" anything.
But you already know all this.
For the record, Shooter can support red flag laws if properly structured.

Moving the goalposts? Really? Government confiscation means EVERYONE, not a selective few that have shown themselves to be untrustworthy.

So, guess you can't show any case of this "taking your collection"...

    1. Oropeza was a law abiding citizen (as far as we know), until he executed five people with his AR-15.
    2. "Gun Nuts" FOR THE MOST PART just want to be left alone....Yep, you said it.
    3. An AR-15 is an inanimate object and doesn't kill on its own....time after time.
    4. A rock can be a deadly weapon... maybe one or two of the five murdered would be alive if he used a rock and this country wasn't swamped with ARs.
    5. As of now, the fuck is still on the loose with his AR-15. How many cops might he kill, shooter?

And its actually way worse than that and spreading. The treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans have made assault weapons their national symbol. They love to take pictures of them holding assault weapons including Christmas cards with all their kids holding assault weapons. Some of them have even taken off their American Flag pins on their lapels and replaced them with AR 15 pins.

The constantly promote and glorify assault weapons which amounts to a national advertising campaign and helps flood the country with assault weapons and extended magazines.

But there is a very real and deadly problem with that. Millions of those assault weapons end up in the hands of dangerous and mentally ill people. And they are designed for only one purpose. To kill just as many people as possible as quickly as possible. And for many people that have then what's the use and fun of having an assault weapon if you don't get to kill as many people as quickly as possible with it. And that motivates many of them to commit mass shootings.

Mass shootings are now a national fad and everyone is wanting to get in on it.

    Case in point.
Did you see the part about this fellow many times firing his weapon in his yard?
Did you read the part about Mexican consulte card?
Did you read the part about countless police calls to this house?

Then why didn't the police do something about him?

Because the laws are of little use if it's not applied. Because most violent gun crimes are committed with illegally possessed guns. Because we are now swamped with firearms owned to kill people and nothing going to stop it.

I did see the part about him being "talked to" by Cleveland cops about shooting a rifle in his neighborhood, now, I am not perfectly familiar with that neighborhood but Texas law says that to fire a rifle on your property you must have no less than 300 feet from a neighboring property and that you are on tract of 50 acres or more and that are does not offer either making his earlier crimes actual fucking crimes so that one falls on the cops. As for the card, I have a card to the Mexican consulate, most Hispanics/ Mexicans have one depending on their nationality or what nation they last crossed in except that he had an ID issued by the consulate aka he was a recent migrant with no citizenship here, mine is because I hold multiple citizenships including the US and Mexico, think of it as a passport of sorts to easily re-enter the United Mexican States. Now to the last point Shooter makes, the multiple calls to the house of the killer, does that not make you think that his ability to have a weapon should have been removed? Clearly he was not a citizen, his lot was too small, and the local police KNEW that he was breaking multiple laws including his Class B misdemeanor for drunk driving in 2009, a DWI should have easily removed his ability to have a gun but this is Texas.
Right about now he is most likely heading back to Mexico because he knows that they will not extradite as long as execution is even possible and this asshole would be executed upon conviction. One of the reports I read said that the killer had told the family that he "will do whatever he wants" just shortly before he slaughtered them and they called police, I am not a cop nor a dispatcher but knowing his history and that last statement alone one would think that a response would have been made but no he got to kill people before the emergency call that got them there. He was a known threat even when they hoped he was being safe just by shooting so close to a structure, the fact that it was at night made it 100X worse, but hey it is Texas and even illegals can have guns as long as they get a fucking permit.

      Wasn't alone.
I had the most remote district in town, almost always the 11PM to 7AM shift.
It bordered on the next town and was close to the county seat.
It was about 7 miles to the next town, 8 miles to the county seat.

Wasn't alone, but always proceeded as if I was alone, because when you got some drunk asshole wanting to fight by the time anyone could get close the fight would be over. One way or the other.

We do know when the police were called, at the time of the shooting while he was slaughtering humans mostly because the family tried to ask their neighbor to do a neighborly thing and stop committing a crime by shooting at night and in close proximity to another house. It was known that he was aggressive, armed, and had been firing a rifle in his yard. The DWI most likely was charged as a misdemeanor but what struck me is a photo of a tattoo that he has, the tattoo is mostly used by gang members and dope dealers and looks like it was done in a jail or prison. Did anyone over the years double check if he was actually legal to have a gun and not just one of the people that slip through in the 72 hour loophole that helps many people get past a background check wrongfully?

First I have to second what @Sanity_is_Realative said. This guy was breaking multiple laws so why wasn't he arrested and his guns taken away.

But it also needs to be noted the people that got slaughtered called 911 about five times over 20 MINUTES before the shooting.

That tends to be the same in most states, minor crimes do not effect firearm ownership rights. But with the newest details about him being deported 4 times before it makes the police look REALY BAD, not just in Cleveland but at every level that he was allowed to obtain a weapon, then when alerted to it police did not even know that he was illegal and had been deported prior, and I can imagine what will come out next like that he has been in prison in the US, remember what I said about that tattoo. This was a failure from the top down, it is a national failure, but honestly in the end the only fault lies with the single asshole that pulled that trigger, he was the one that did all of this even above the lapses of others. Until people stop blaming the labels and start blaming the actual criminals nothing changes at all.

Can non-citizens buy and own a firearm? Yes, but the hurdles are high, the are required to give their permanent resident identification, their alien registration number, and tons of information that if they are legal will end in a successful background check like the laws require but at the same time if they use false info they can trigger the 72 hour laws and get around the checks because by law if the FBI cannot or does not complete the check within 72 hours the person is allowed to buy the weapon at no fault. The seller is not responsible in these cases because they did what was required, the FBI is not to blame because they did all that they could with the information given and the low levels of staffing to complete the checks. So who is at fault? The law itself. Why is the law to blame in these situations? Because in times of high demand for the checks even honest people slip through the cracks, call it the inefficiencies of government, call it bad planning, hell call it anything at all but until that changes it will keep happening.
I do not agree with all of the US gun laws because I know felons that are more responsible than a lot of people that have no criminal record, there is a man at a local store that was convicted so he can only work after beer sales hours until the time that it starts again meaning midnight to seven in the morning because of the stores policies and him not having a car limits where he can work in our tiny town, he walks 3 miles each way to work 6 days a week just to make his hours to pay for his room that he rents and food, he is not allowed to drive because he got out just a couple of months ago and has to wait a year to drive again, I also know 1 guy that was charged with murder but allowed to keep all 39 of his guns even the one he used to kill someone. The one that killed some ones lawyer made sure that the state had no witnesses allowed by challenging every last one they came up with so he got off just because he had the money to buy freedom but many poor people have to risk sub par defenses with a public defender that is way over worked and end up in prison for possession of marijuana yet killers get off. My thought is that if everyone could just put that whole line of bullshit that is political party, religion, race, gender, and income level and remember that we are all at risk from bad laws maybe one day we could accomplish something that is best for all because we elect lawmakers not just to represent ourselves btu to represent everyone.

It is just one of their favorite racist tropes. As proven by many cities having more gun deaths than Chicago. And gun violence being worse in red states.

With the federal government paralyzed to do anything about guns thanks to the NRA and treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans in Congress states are now taking action on their own. And its not enough. Its patch work that is always hampered by guns coming is from states with lax gun laws. But it does have multiple benefits. The most important of which is to reduce gun violence and deaths in their states. Two, calling attention to the fact gun laws work and we can do it. But just as important showing the world will not end if common sense gun laws get passed.

3 states pass major gun control reform packages

    IVAN PEREIRA
Sun, April 30, 2023 at 6:47 AM MDT

Governors in two states passed major gun control legislation this week and a third is poised to do the same soon.

On Friday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed the legislative package that included a longer waiting period for firearm sales, and an increase in the minimum age to purchase a gun.

Colorado's move came three days after Washington state became the 10th state in the nation to ban assault rifles and handguns after Gov. Jay Inslee signed a gun reform package.

MORE: America has a gun violence problem. What do we do about it?

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told reporters this week that he will sign a gun control package that includes prohibitions for civilian gun owners to bring their guns to schools and other sensitive locations.

While gun control advocates have praised the states for their moves, contending it will curb gun violence, some gun rights groups are already threatening court action against the Democratic leaders.

    Washington
On Tuesday, Washington state banned the purchase of new assault weapons for residents as part of a three-bill gun control-related package.

The ban covers 61 rifles and pistols, including the AR-15.

"Inaction against gun violence is unacceptable," Inslee told reporters after signing the legislative package Tuesday.

Residents who already own the prohibited weapons are allowed to retain the weapons, according to the law.

Another law in the package mandated training for gun purchasers that included instructions on "proper storage, handling, use and transportation practice."

The third bill "clarifies legal liabilities for gun dealers and manufacturers for knowingly creating, maintaining or contributing to a public nuisance by designing, selling or marketing," to children or people who are prohibited from buying firearms.

Although the White House praised Inslee and the Democratic-led legislature for banning the weapons, gun rights groups criticized the legislation contending it was infringing on second amendment rights.

The National Rifle Association filed a lawsuit in the Eastern District of Washington challenging the ban.

"Instead of arresting, prosecuting and punishing criminals, Gov. Inslee is focusing on restricting the rights of law-abiding Americans who use these rifles for a variety of lawful purposes," Aoibheann Cline, Washington state director of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, said in a statement.

    Colorado
Polis signed four gun control bills Friday that were passed by the Colorado legislature during this session.

"Coloradans deserve to be safe in our communities, in our schools, and our grocery stores, nightclubs. Everywhere in between, Coloradans shouldn't have to fear the threat of robbery or gun violence," the governor said at a news conference before signing the package.

The most major of the bills raised the age for legally purchasing firearms from 18 to 21. There are exceptions for law enforcement, military members and those with valid hunting licenses, according to the law's language.

Another law now requires a three-day minimum waiting period for purchasing a firearm to allow for background checks.

A third bill strengthened the state's red flag laws and allows teachers, medical care providers and mental health providers to petition the court to confiscate someone's weapons if they pose a danger to themselves or others.

The fourth bill rolled back legal protections for gun manufacturers and made them more liable for civil suits related to gun violence.

Republican state leaders pushed back against the bills with filibusters, contending that they were too restrictive, but the Democratic-led house and state pushed them forward.

Minutes after those four bills were signed into law, the nonprofit gun rights advocacy group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners said they were going to challenge the bills related to the legal age.

"This is simply bigoted politicians doing what bigoted politicians do: discriminating against an age," Taylor Rhodes, the executive director of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, told the Associated Press.

    Maryland
The Maryland state legislature passed several bills that were created following last year's Supreme Court ruling over state concealed carry prohibitions.

The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen ruling ended a Maryland requirement for people to demonstrate a particular need to get a license to carry a concealed gun in public.

One of the bills, SB1 passed by the legislature removes the "good and substantial reason" from the law, which Democratic lawmakers said would make the prohibition of concealed carry legal under the new Supreme Court decision.

The bill would prohibit a person from wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun in an "area for children or vulnerable individuals," such as schools, or in a "special purpose area," such as a restaurant or other place that serves alcohol.

It also prohibits a civilian from bringing a firearm onto someone's property without the permission of the property's owner.

"We're going through and checking on the constitutionality now, but, yes, I plan on signing them soon," Gov. Moore told reporters Thursday.

Gun rights groups questioned the constitutionality of the bill and have threatened legal action.

Mark Pennak, president of Maryland Shall Issue, told the Associated Press his group plans on suing if the bill is signed.

"The court could not have been clearer, and what they have respectively done with the enactment of SB1 is truncate that right far beyond what the Supreme Court had permitted in Bruen," he told the AP.

The Maryland legislature also passed a bill that raised the minimum age for purchasing a firearm from 18 to 21.

Donald Trump thrust himself to the fore of the gun debate on Wednesday, announcing that he’ll meet with the National Rifle Association to discuss banning people on the terror and no-fly watch lists from purchasing firearms.

The announcement came in a tweet in the morning, roughly 90 minutes before Senate Democrats launched a filibuster to prompt action on the same issue, which is regaining attention after the Orlando massacre in which the gunman slaughtered 49 people and injured 53 others inside an LGBT nightclub.

“I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns,” Trump tweeted.

His unprompted announcement pressures the gun lobby to help reach a compromise on the contentious proposal in the wake of the worst mass shooting in American history. While the gunman, Omar Mateen, was not on a terror watch list at the time of the shooting, he had previously been investigated by the FBI on concerns he had been radicalized.

The NRA endorsed Trump last month at its annual meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, marking the earliest the group’s lobbying arm has backed a presidential candidate.

“The people that head up the NRA are great people,” Trump told supporters Wednesday afternoon during a rally in Atlanta. “And they love this country, and I told you we’re going to protect that Second Amendment, because it is under siege.”

Though Trump’s proactive stance on the terror watch list issue is new, he has previously expressed his support of such a ban. Following November’s terrorist attacks in Paris in which 130 people died, Trump backed a Democratic-pushed measure to bar people on the watch list from purchasing guns.

“If somebody is on a watch list and an enemy of state and we know it’s an enemy of state, I would keep them away, absolutely,” Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in November.

It’s not known whether Trump will push for a form of the ban that will be palatable to Democrats, but his general stance aligns with President Barack Obama.

“The president does believe that the notion of preventing people who are on the no-fly list from buying a gun is a pretty common sense proposition,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters, though he notably deflected questions about Trump’s NRA meeting. “It is the kind of thing that even people who have profound political differences should be able to agree on,”

Trump’s position appeared to signal a shift from the NRA, which had dismissed such bans just one day ago as “ineffective” or “unconstitutional,” if not both.

“Restrictions like bans on gun purchases by people on ‘watch lists’ are ineffective, unconstitutional, or both,” the NRA tweeted Tuesday.

By Wednesday, however, the NRA tweeted that it was “happy to meet” Trump to discuss the issue, though it later made clear that the announcement did not represent a change.

“Our position is no guns for terrorists—period,” the association wrote. “Due process & right to self-defense for law-abiding Americans.”

NRA Institute for Legislative Action executive director Chris W. Cox reiterated as much in a statement released by the association, expressing willingness to meet with Trump but emphasizing that its position remains unchanged.

“The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing,” Cox said in the statement.

“If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist,” he continued. “At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed.”

After the Orlando shootings, Senate Democrats have re-upped pressure on Republicans on their proposal that would bar people on federal terror watch lists from purchasing firearms. But GOP senators have largely aligned behind a counter-proposal from Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas), who has said his own plan would accomplish much of the same goals as Democrats, yet better protect due process for people who mistakenly end up on federal terror lists.

Under Cornyn’s proposal, the attorney general would be able to delay the gun purchase by a person who is on the terror watch list for up to 72 hours and file an emergency petition in court to ban the purchase altogether. A judge would then have the final call on whether there’s probable cause that the person trying to buy a gun will commit terrorism.

Both proposals failed to advance in December, although Cornyn’s plan got more votes in the GOP-controlled chamber.

Senate Democrats launched a filibuster Wednesday in effort to pressure Republicans to move on legislation to deny suspected terrorists from buying guns and require universal background checks.

“I’m going to remain on this floor until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together on these two measures, that we can get a path forward on addressing this epidemic in a meaningful, bipartisan way,” said Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, who in a statement Sunday accused Congress of becoming “complicit in these murders by its total, unconscionable deafening silence.”

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, a frequent Trump critic who has said he will not support the Republican nominee in November and even encouraged fellow Republicans to un-endorse him, told CNN he agreed with Trump’s decision to meet with the NRA, adding that the real estate mogul should “stay on this path.”

“This idea that gun control will make it safe, I don’t buy. But let’s look at the issue of no-fly lists and terrorist watch lists,” Graham said. “I really do believe most Americans feel that if you can’t get on a plane because you’re such a risk, you probably shouldn’t have a gun. I think Mr. Trump is smart to see if we can sit down and find a way forward that will allow people to be denied a gun but also the chance to say the government got it wrong when it came to me being a terrorist.”

In the House, Democrats are pushing so-called “No Fly, No Buy” legislation to prevent people on terror watch lists from purchasing guns. During a Wednesday news conference convened by House Democrats, New York Rep. Steve Israel suggested Trump’s NRA meeting will be irrelevant.

“If Donald Trump decides today that he supports ‘No Fly, No Buy,’ it will be just the latest disagreement that House Republicans say they have with him. It is irrelevant,” he said.

“If con-man Don can convince the NRA to move forward on this, God bless him,” added New York Rep. Joe Crowley. “But again, it just goes to show the power of the NRA, that their presidential nominee will go on hand and knee begging for them to give them a pass on this issue so that it can trickle down to all the other Republican members of the House. It’s ludicrous. It is crazy.”

The NRA in November maintained that it “does not want terrorists or dangerous people to have firearms,” arguing that “any suggestion otherwise is offensive and wrong.”

“The NRA’s only objective is to ensure that Americans who are wrongly on the list are afforded their constitutional right to due process,” Jennifer Baker, the NRA-ILA’s public affairs director, said in a statement at the time. “It is appalling that anti-gun politicians are exploiting the Paris terrorist attacks to push their gun-control agenda and distract from President Obama’s failed foreign policy.”

Its actually a laughable sick joke. But if you are a treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican you must be seen with an assault weapon. Which is great advertisement for mass shooters.

Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert is being criticized after sharing photos taken at a gun range just hours after five people, including a 9-year-old child, were fatally shot in Texas by a suspect with an assault weapon. One of the photos shows Boebert holding up a shirt that reads: "Since we're redefining everything, this is a cordless hole puncher," next to an illustration of an assault weapon.

"Thank you, Montrose! It was great to join you at the San Juan Shooting Range," the Colorado congresswoman wrote on Twitter Saturday, beneath a series of photos taken at the facility.

The photo was posted one day after a suspect armed with an AR-15 style rifle reportedly shot a group of people "execution style" after charging into their home when they asked him to stop shooting his gun outside.

The victims have been identified as Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; Jonathan Casarez, 18; and Daniel Enrique Laso, 9.

Those reacting to Boebert's photo of the pro-gun shirt offered a litany of criticism, calling it "heartless," while others called it "sickening" or "repulsive."

Since Boebert was elected in 2020, the Donald Trump ally has made national news various times for how she has handled controversial issues such as gun laws and COVID restrictions. She is one of 147 Republican members of Congress who objected to certifying the electoral vote count after the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Last June, Boebert thanked former President Trump for the "massive victories for religious liberty, Second Amendment rights, and the pro-life movement" that came out of the Supreme Court decisions over Roe v. Wade.

Boebert has been previously criticized for sending a pro-gun fundraising email just hours after a mass shooting in her home state.

"I told Beto 'HELL NO' to taking our guns. Now we need to tell Joe Biden," the email's subject line read, according to a copy of the email shared by a reporter online.

The email from Boebert's campaign reportedly appeared mere hours after a Boulder, Colorado, supermarket shooting that killed 10 people.

A bit of new info about the latest Texas loser that slaughtered 5 people, he had been deported 4 times yet still had his consulate ID which was supposed to be confiscated the first time he was deported but there was one good bit of info today, the dogs from Darrington were called in. Darrington is a prison in Brazoria county where they breed and train the BEST tracking dogs for law enforcement so if he is still local they will find his useless ass and hopefully show the same mercy that he did. From what I have learned right now 200 officers are looking around the clock for this demon fuck and I hope that when they do they do not wait for a trial before finding justice for that family.
